WEST COLUMBIA — The 24,000-square-foot, blue metal building dwarfs the surrounding landscape on 13th Street. Windows and most doors are installed, but there is no front entry, just a wide, gaping hole

WEST COLUMBIA — The 24,000-square-foot, blue metal building dwarfs the surrounding landscape on 13th Street. Windows and most doors are installed, but there is no front entry, just a wide, gaping hole leading inside to the insulated shell.

The building will be the home of the Columbia Christian Senior Citizens Center, a 45-year-old organization devoted to cooking and sharing meals at low or no cost with West Columbia’s disabled, down-on-their luck and elderly residents The group is run by a small board of directors and day-to-day operations are under the direction of Pat Eddy. The nonprofit is housed at 629 E. Bernard St., but Eddy received notice in May that the building’s owner was putting it up for sale.
